“Video interviews require attention to your environment. Test your technology beforehand. Make sure you have proper lighting. Eliminate background distractions that might cause the interviewer to be distracted, like that painting over my shoulder there. Position your camera at eye level. Look at the camera, not at your own image, and maintain eye contact. After all, they’re trying to talk to you and get a flavor for you, and all the details matter. Your job is to connect with people, not with the notes around you, so pay attention, focus on them, and not on you.
