Delighted Republicans say Democrat 2028 hopeful Gavin Newsom’s gaffe-prone wife is their new secret weapon as they plead with her to do more interviews

Republicans are gleefully embracing an unlikely ally in their quest to derail Gavin Newsom’s widely anticipated 2028 presidential ambitions – his own wife.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom has become a lightning rod for criticism after a string of interviews and public appearances that conservatives say perfectly capture what they view as the out-of-touch elitism surrounding the Democratic governor.

Siebel Newsom has had string of public appearances in which she criticized wealthy elites, scolded reporters, and delivered remarks that GOP critics say perfectly encapsulate what they view as the smug detachment of the Democratic political class.

GOP operatives, activists, and conservative commentators are now openly urging her to step in front of cameras more often, convinced that every unscripted remark is political gold.

Their delight reached new heights this week after Siebel Newsom delivered a withering critique of wealthy tech leaders who have gravitated toward Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Her remarks that quickly spread across social media as critics pointed to her own life of immense privilege.

‘It’s incredibly disheartening and disturbing. It’s very confusing,’ she said when asked about what some observers have described as tech’s political shift to the right.

‘When you spend too much time in your bubble of wealth and perhaps in your limited perspective where you only interact at the same economic ilk until they’re actually employed by you, I think that’s a really dangerous place.’

One X user responded bluntly: ‘Gavin Newsom’s wife complaining about people ‘spending too much time in your bubble of wealth’ after they bought a nearly $10 million house in Marin County not too long ago is just…perfection.’

Another Republican voice was even more explicit about the political value of her appearances writing: ‘THANK YOU @JenSiebelNewsom for gifting us TWO negative campaign ads against the @GavinNewsom28 campaign this week! First, when you shoved aside your husband to berate mostly female journalists for doing their job.’

Actor Dean Cain, a longtime conservative commentator, added his own blunt assessment on X: ‘She’s INCREDIBLY unlikeable!’

The backlash was fueled in part by a remarkable moment earlier this week, when Siebel Newsom physically stepped forward during a Planned Parenthood press conference and rebuked reporters for asking what she viewed as the wrong questions.

Standing beside her husband as he fielded queries unrelated to women’s healthcare, she took the microphone and delivered a pointed reprimand.

‘We just find it incredulous that we have Planned Parenthood here and women are 51 percent of the population,’ she said. ‘And majority of these questions – all of these questions – have really been about other issues.’

She continued: ‘It’s just fascinating, you have this incredible women’s caucus and all these allies, and you’re not asking about it.

‘You wonder why we have such a horrific war on women in this country, and that these guys are getting away with it. You don’t seem to care. So I just offer that with love,’ she went on.

The moment stunned many in the room and quickly went viral fodder online. A political gift for the Republicans.

Siebel Newsom’s comments about ‘bubble of wealth’ and her decision to publicly scold journalists have only intensified criticism of her at a moment when her husband’s national ambitions are increasingly obvious.

Although Newsom has not formally declared a presidential run, he has spent years positioning himself as a leading Democratic voice, clashing with Republican governors, appearing on conservative media outlets, and building a national profile that suggests he is preparing for a White House bid.

Her critics say the remarks reinforced a perception that the Newsoms occupy a rarefied world far removed from ordinary Americans – a narrative that has followed the governor for years.

Nothing symbolized that perception more vividly than the Governor’s infamous 2020 dinner at the French Laundry, the ultra-exclusive Napa Valley restaurant, at the height of California’s Covid lockdowns.

At the time, Newsom had imposed sweeping restrictions on indoor gatherings, shuttered businesses, and urged Californians to stay home.

But he attended a birthday dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant anyway – a move that became a political scandal.

Newsom later expressed deep regret for his actions.

‘I despise me for the French Laundry. I was wrong. I went to this damn restaurant. That’s the rules for thee and not for me,’ he said. ‘I’m going to indict myself here. Biggest boneheaded damn decision I made.’

‘Everyone who criticized me is goddamn right. And I own that,’ he added.

The episode became a lasting symbol for his critics and came to symbolize his hypocrisy and elitism.

Now, Republicans say his wife’s remarks risk reinforcing that same image.
