Danish Furniture Design Exhibitions : Archetypes exhibition

The Archetypes exhibition by Danish designer Stine Mikkelsen represented a significant shift in her creative practice as she transitioned from limited-edition artistic pieces to functional, production-ready furniture and lighting.

Held at Frederiksgade 1 in Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign 2025, the showcase centered on the reinterpretation of Stine Mikkelsen’s earlier conceptual bench — Semble — into a cohesive collection of ash wood and stainless steel objects. Mikkelsen’s focus on material exploration emphasized texture, contrast, and manufacturability. This resulted in designs that balance artistic expression with industrial feasibility.

The Archetypes exhibition highlighted Mikkelsen’s iterative design process, which was developed through close collaboration with local craftsmen. For interior designers, collectors, and enthusiasts of Scandinavian design, this showcase presented an opportunity to witness the evolution of a designer expanding her reach while maintaining a strong artistic identity.
