Clean the Sky – Wooden Wind Turbine Blades

Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

Wooden wind turbine blades are at the center of a new collaboration between Senvion and Voodin Blade Technology, offering a transformative approach to reducing waste and emissions in wind energy manufacturing. These large-scale laminated veneer lumber (LVL) blades present an eco-friendly alternative to conventional fiberglass and carbon fiber designs, which contribute to an estimated 2 million tons of global blade waste annually.

Designed to be fully biodegradable and sourced from sustainable forestry, the wooden blades generate 78% fewer CO₂ emissions during production and cost 28% less than metal counterparts. In addition to their environmental credentials, the technology presents economic opportunities for rural regions with strong forestry industries, positioning them as potential hubs for next-generation blade manufacturing. With test models already at 19.3 meters and ambitions to surpass 50 meters on 4.2MW turbine platforms, these innovations mark a promising shift toward circular, low-impact renewable energy infrastructure.
