It is pivoting from a global reuse goal to market-specific scalable sustainable packaging strategies, discontinuing its former target of 20% reusable packaging by 2030. PepsiCo maintains other key commitments around regenerative agriculture, water positivity, and reducing virgin plastic use.

This pragmatic shift may enhance investor trust and regulatory readiness by focusing on achievable, impact-driven targets. While advocacy groups may challenge the removal of the reuse goal, PepsiCo’s pivot underscores how large firms must adapt to systemic packaging barriers. It sets a precedent for transparent ESG recalibration.
