SSE Airtricity has allocated over €280,000 to sustainability initiatives in Wexford and Carlow via its Generation Green Community Fund. The funding supports five projects — including YolaHedge School’s biodiversity hub and The B!g Idea’s climate education accelerator — as part of 56 community-led initiatives across Ireland. Projects focus on biodiversity, renewable energy upgrades, sustainability education, and climate resilience, with aims to cut Ireland’s carbon emissions by 2,500 tonnes annually.
Stephen Gallagher, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity, emphasised the importance of local leadership in achieving net zero, while recipients highlighted the transformative impact on schools, green spaces, and youth climate engagement. The fund also aligns with Ireland’s UN SDG commitments, embedding lasting environmental awareness across communities and improving energy efficiency in public facilities.
This funding positions SSE Airtricity as a leader in corporate-led community climate action, enhancing brand equity while aligning with national sustainability targets. By supporting high-visibility local projects, the company strengthens stakeholder trust, builds goodwill in key service areas, and potentially increases customer loyalty through demonstrated environmental responsibility.
