Braskem has inaugurated its 35,000-square-foot Renewable Innovation Center in Lexington, Massachusetts, to advance early-stage research in renewable chemicals and sustainable materials. The facility is equipped to expand the company’s capabilities in biotechnology, catalysis, and process engineering, with a particular focus on converting biomass-based feedstocks—such as sugars, cellulose, plant oils, and lignin—into novel chemicals and materials. This center represents the latest expansion of Braskem’s global Innovation & Technology network and is intended to accelerate the discovery of technologies that support growth-oriented solutions aimed at mitigating climate change and reducing reliance on finite resources.
The Lexington center is strategically situated within Greater Boston’s biotechnology and innovation ecosystem, located within an hour’s drive of more than 60 universities and colleges, enabling collaboration with leading academic and research institutions. Work conducted at this site will complement Braskem’s existing R&D efforts across the United States, Brazil, Mexico, and Germany. By increasing investment and dedicating resources to this new center, Braskem aims to strengthen its position as a key player in the production of materials derived from renewable feedstocks, advance plastic circularity, and contribute to the company’s broader objectives for carbon reduction and sustainable development.
