Thermoplastics manufacturer Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) announced the North American launch of its award-winning ‘kp Infinity®’ food service packaging line. Made from expanded polypropylene (EPP), kp Infinity® containers offer a fully recyclable, high-performance alternative to traditional expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam packaging, which is being phased out due to environmental regulations. The EPP material provides excellent thermal insulation for hot foods, is resistant to leaks and oils, and is durable yet lightweight. Importantly, kp Infinity® has received Design Validation from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), confirming it can be readily recycled in communities with #5 plastic (polypropylene) recycling streams.
By replacing EPS (commonly used in take-out clamshells and cups), which many jurisdictions have banned, kp Infinity® allows food service businesses to comply with new laws without sacrificing performance. The product also features ‘Recycle Me’ messaging on packaging to encourage proper disposal.
