The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) announced significant upgrades at its Oevel, Belgium manufacturing and fulfillment campus to strengthen environmental performance. Sustainability enhancements include new water treatment systems that boosted reuse from 59% to 85%, reducing freshwater use and eliminating 3,000 tons of sludge waste annually. The facility also expanded solar installations, now producing over 2 MW of renewable energy, and continues to operate on 100% green electricity. ELC maintains a zero waste-to-landfill status at the site, reusing or recycling over 85% of generated waste.
This investment shows how major beauty brands are embedding ESG goals into operations. The improvements reduce long-term costs, improve compliance resilience, and enhance brand reputation with environmentally conscious consumers. ELC’s upgrades could also influence peers in the cosmetics industry to adopt similar sustainability measures.
