James Cropper and Bruichladdich Whisky have partnered to tackle packaging sustainability by reducing raw material usage. Bruichladdich’s ‘One Tin Lighter’ initiative aims to eliminate tin secondary packaging from its core single malt whiskies. Moreover, production and transport emissions prompted the company to seek a more eco-friendly alternative, leading to a collaboration with James Cropper.
The result is an innovative, colored bottle wrap— a first in the spirits market— featuring intricate embossing and debossing techniques. Made from “100% fresh fibre, it is significantly lighter than tin-based packaging, without compromising strength; the design is glue-free, sealed with a front-facing clasp, and fully recyclable within domestic systems.”
Led by Packaging Designer Heather Allen, the project focuses on both sustainability and aesthetics. The wrap resembles a decanter, and its design has been praised for its appeal, with bars and customers continuing to use the packaging long after purchase.
