Mount Coot-tha in Brisbane is set for a major transformation under a comprehensive masterplan designed to enhance ecotourism, accessibility, and environmental resilience. Among the key initiatives is the renewal of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Tropical Dome, a heritage facility now poised for modernisation. The plan also includes potential upgrades to the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium and the creation of an elevated, all-abilities tree-top walk offering immersive views of the surrounding landscape.
Infrastructure improvements are central to the proposal, including converting Sir Samuel Griffith Drive into a one-way loop with a dedicated cycling lane to improve traffic flow and promote active transport. Additional features include revitalised picnic areas with temporary café facilities, a mountain bike skills track to encourage outdoor recreation, and expanded revegetation zones to support biodiversity and provide natural shade.
The future repurposing of the Mount Coot-tha Quarry and the introduction of a wilderness trail signal a long-term vision that aligns with Queensland’s broader focus on sustainable, nature-based tourism.
