Clean the Sky – Carbon Neutral Shipping Solutions

Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

Wasaline is set to launch the Baltic’s first carbon-neutral shipping route, operating between Vaasa, Finland, and Umeå, Sweden. Under a new deal with Gasum and a FuelEU Maritime agreement with Stena Line, its vessel Aurora Botnia will run entirely on certified biogas and battery power.

Recognized by DNV as the first international green shipping corridor in operation, the route will cut life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions by around 90% compared to fossil fuels. Gasum’s bio-LNG, made from waste materials like food scraps, sewage sludge, and manure, powers the vessel for the 3.5-4 hour trip across the Gulf of Bothnia.

“With this unique collaboration with Stena Line and Gasum, Wasaline can achieve carbon neutrality already now as a forerunner for the industry. This also means that all cargo and passengers travelling with Wasaline are sustainable with no additional extra charges for being carbon neutral,” says Peter Ståhlberg, Managing Director of Wasaline.
