A California woman died after her kayak capsized in three-foot waves during windy weather. 

Brigitte Manspeaker, 37, of Los Angeles, was found face down in the water in Tomales Bay near San Francisco on Saturday after she slipped from her lifejacket and drowned while she and her boyfriend were kayaking with their dog. 

Due to windy conditions and the bay was experiencing three-foot swells, the kayak capsized near Mendoza Beach around 6.10pm. 

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in a helicopter 12 minutes after reports of their kayak overturning. 

Manspeaker’s boyfriend, who was not identified, and their dog were found clinging to the capsized kayak. The man, who was suffering from cold exposure, was rescued via longline. 

The dog was rescued by boat by the National Park Service, which reunited the animal with a friend of the couple, the sheriff’s office said. 

Manspeaker was found roughly 200 feet away from the kayak, being carried away with the outgoing tide, authorities said. She was also brought to shore via longline, where emergency personnel began CPR. 

She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The boyfriend, who was not identified, was rescued via longline. He suffered from cold exposure. Her body was found 200 feet from the kayak and face down. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital

The weekend’s weather shattered heat records for March in the area, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. 

The summer-like temperatures are expected to continue this week in the area.
