If you’re a professional trying to be the best person for the role, you’ve entered a race to the bottom. Being better, being the best—it’s a trap because it’s subjective. It’s a comparison. It invites a hiring manager to put you on a scale against 10 others and then haggle over the price.
Don’t do comparisons; do differentiation. You have to move from a generalist title like Director of Marketing to a niche authority title like Market Entry Specialist for European Fintech Firms Entering the US. Notice the difference between the two.
