Bally Scribe Unboxing – The Shoe Snob

The Bally ‘Scribe’ collection was once considered the epitome of quality back when Bally was one of the most famous brands out of Europe. Sadly, times have changed, and Bally went down the path of ‘fashion’ leaving quality far behind for many of their products. In this Bally Scribe Unboxing, we actually look at a pair that is 12 years old and in pristine condition. It represents what Bally once offered.

The Scribe line technically remains offered but does not hold the same value as it once did. While still a great shoe that is solid and will last the test of time, you pay a lot simply for the name and almost none of the added finishing features you often get at that price point.

When I look at their website now and see the ‘Scribe’ collection, sadly, it would appear that they have even gone another step down in quality. I simply see very basic Goodyear welted shoes with some fashion-inspired design. I do not see a classic dress shoe aimed at appealing to the discerning shoe connoisseur. I see a shoe aimed at appealing to the rich executive who knows nothing about shoes but wants the look and quite possibly the name. Because who else is buying $1200 Bally shoes?

Apart from the lack of detailing in the finishing department, I actually really enjoyed this pair. It has a nice last shape, a beautiful color, and what looked like high-quality upper leather. It felt solid, like a shoe that you could pass down to your son if treated properly. As I mention in the video, I imagine them being Italian-made since I believe the Swiss production has probably shut down.
