Authorities Investigating Multi-State Double Murder-Suicide


Police are investigating a multi-state murder-suicide that left three people dead, Us Weekly has learned.

Authorities in Illinois received a phone call on Wednesday, March 4, from a man claiming two women would be found shot to death in a home in Jackson Township, Pennsylvania.

Cops traced the call to Hillside and raced to the man’s address, where they allegedly found him dead by suicide, authorities confirmed.

Investigators in Illinois called the Pennsylvania State Police and requested a welfare check at the Pittsburgh-area home the women lived in.

Police said officers went to the home and knocked. Receiving no response, the cops forced their way into the home, where the two women were located dead from gunshot wounds.

Local reports indicate the two women were related to the man who murdered them. In fact, CBS News cites sources who said that the three victims were an estranged husband and wife and their daughter.

The names of the victims have not been released, as next of kin had yet to be notified as of Thursday, March 5.

Pennsylvania State Police said they’ve taken over the investigation into the double murder-suicide.

“At this time, investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to the public, and law enforcement is not searching for any additional individuals in connection with this incident,” police said in a statement. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation.”

Neighbors told CBS News that the killings have had a chilling effect.

“My first reaction was shocked because this is such a close-knit neighborhood, and to think something that horrible could happen here is very tragic, because they were such a good family,” neighbor Danielle Sporer said Wednesday.

Troopers told reporters they are not searching for additional suspects and do not believe there is an ongoing danger to the public while the investigation continues.

In recent weeks, there have been a number of murder-suicides that have made headlines.

In Alabama, a man entered a hospital where his wife had just given birth to their first child and killed her before dying by suicide.

A father from an exclusive Florida enclave returned from an overseas business trip to the news his wife and their two kids were all dead.

And in Las Vegas recently, a mother and daughter from Utah in town for a cheerleading competition were found dead in their motel room. The girl had been at the center of a bitter custody battle, and reports suggest the mother had recently been bullied by other cheer moms with daughters on her child’s team.
