British design firm Foster + Partners has created the dynamic Saudi Arabia Pavilion defined by angular buildings linked together with street-like pathways. It is at the Osaka Expo and made in collaboration with design agency Journey — the idea was to imitate traditional villages. It is at the Grand Ring on Yumeshima island as it sections into a range of immersive experiences reflecting Saudi Arabia.
Miki explained to Dezeen, “The overarching ambition for the project is to create meaningful connections between people from across the globe and the Saudi Arabian people. We carefully studied the organisation and proportions of Saudi Arabian streets and reinterpreted them for the project. From the moment visitors enter the pavilion, they are invited to explore a ‘village’ of meandering streets, with a dynamic courtyard at its heart.”
