Another Annoying Job Search Mistake

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter offers up one of those stupid job search mistakes that annoys employers that you should never do.

Your Unemployment Is About to Run Out!

I want to talk with you about one of those job search mistakes that job hunters make way too often that just ticks people off. Here’s the one.

You see an ad. You respond to it. And your response says, “tell me more about the job.”

Tell me more about the job? You’re applying for a position. I’m supposed to tell you more about the job. Helping understand how this works for me? Other than you take up a lot of my time.

Start by letting me know about how you’re qualified for the job and why I should invest my time in you to talk with you.

“Tell me more about the job,” is a ridiculous question. No resume. For all I know you’re in Senegal and you’re curious because you want to come to America. I know nothing about you and I have to write a personal letter to you? I don’t think so.

Stop asking people to tell you about the job. Tell them about yourself first and then say, ” I’d love to know more. Can we schedule time to speak?”

That’s the best way to do it.
