Detroit has been buzzing with tension and speculation following a serious incident involving rising rap star Skilla Baby. The city was shaken after reports of a shooting surfaced, sending shockwaves through the local music scene and beyond. Authorities launched an investigation, and in a major development, an alleged suspect connected to the shooting has been apprehended.

Alleged Shooting Suspect Caught

Authorities confirmed that, on Wednesday, a suspect was arrested in connection with the May 22 incident, thanks to a coordinated effort across multiple law enforcement agencies. Leading up to the arrest, investigators tracked down a suspected vehicle, eventually linking it to a registered owner. That individual was taken into custody by Detroit Police during a search warrant of their home, where officers recovered a firearm, according to the Redford Township Police Department. 

Furthermore, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case while the suspect faces felony weapons charges.

What We Know About The Shooting

The drive-by shooting itself went down around 7 p.m. near Eight Mile Road and Beech Daly Road. Officials say multiple shots were fired at an SUV, which Skilla Baby was driving at the time. He was also the only person inside the vehicle. Following the gunfire, the SUV crashed into a nearby building. Skilla was reportedly rushed to the hospital afterward and has since been recovering. Multiple reports claim that the rapper was grazed in the head and shot in the leg. 

Less than 72 hours after the shooting, Skilla Baby made a surprise appearance at 42 Dugg’s concert at Detroit’s Masonic Temple Theatre. Rocking an arm sling, but still seemingly in good spirits, the rapper’s pop-out stunned fans. While he’s since kept a low profile, the recent arrest concerning the incident brings some relief to supporters hoping for justice.

For those unfamiliar, Skilla Baby, whose real name is Trevon Gardner, has been rising through the ranks of Detroit’s rap scene. He earned a reputation for gritty bars and deep ties to his community. Ironically, the artist had recently partnered with local leaders for a gun violence awareness initiative, including a buyback program to make the city’s streets safer.
