Households are the leading source of food waste in the United States, responsible for 35% of the total amount generated, and the Foodres.Ai Printer was created to repurpose an abundant resource into purposeful items for the home. The AI-powered 3D printer was designed to upcycle household waste into objects like coasters, containers, cup holders and decorations.
Once food waste has been placed into the printer, the companion mobile app taps into the power of artificial intelligence to analyze the contents via a camera, identify the food type and suggest a creation that best suits its physical properties. Going forward, the team behind the AI-powered 3D printer aims to “provide precise data analysis so that the model can identify waste items and assess the level of freshness within food waste piles in real time.”
