French design studio Atelier O-S Architectes designed the Marie Marvingt Gymnasium in the northern part of France. It has a barn-like style, which is decorated in timber planks to help blend it with the agricultural surroundings. It is between a suburban space and farmland. Notably, the gym also has a high school on the location across and has external running tracks.
The studio co-founder Gaël Le Nouëne explained, “The idea is to find an archetypal form halfway between vernacular and contemporary, between the barn and the structuring equipment that fits into this great landscape and finds its place naturally as if it were already there. The barn and the shelter are references to simple, timeless structures that make their mark on our contemporary architectural culture, just as they do in photography or landscape design.”
