Quebec-based health technology firm Zilia has achieved Health Canada approval for its pioneering Zilia Ocular™ device, marking a significant advancement in ocular diagnostics. This innovative retinal camera utilizes proprietary optical technology to non-invasively measure oxygen saturation levels in the eye — a world-first capability that provides clinicians with crucial metabolic data previously unavailable through conventional eye exams.
By capturing real-time oxygenation metrics, the ocular diagnostics device enables earlier detection of conditions like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
The technology aligns with the growing field of oculomics, which examines eye biomarkers as indicators of both ocular and systemic health. This represents a shift toward more proactive and personalized eye care approaches. Following its Canadian launch, Zilia intends to introduce the device in U.S. and European markets.
