Over the past 25 years, size? and adidas Originals have cemented a solid relationship, and from this produced some significant exclusives, including the ‘City Series’, 3rd party collaborative classics with the likes of Henry Poole, Colnago and Marvel, plus 4 iterations of the Superstar… and counting.
Today, we’re spotlighting our adidas Originals Superstar – size? exclusives from our archives, and looking at what inspired these iconic designs.
adidas Originals Superstar 80s – size? exclusive (2016)
Our first size? Superstar collaboration back in 2016 featured a dual pack of reworked Superstar 80s Leather. Focusing on material selection, both pairs featured a tumbled leather upper with nubuck accents on the heel tab and 3-Stripes. A monochromatic dream, the first pair came all in white, while the second came with a black upper and off-white sole unit and shell toe. Petition to bring these back please.

adidas Originals Superstar 50/20 – size? exclusive (2020)
Skipping forward to 2020, it was a big year for both size? and the Superstar, with each party celebrating a respective anniversary. Naturally, we had to celebrate with 3 exclusives, the first of which fused Superstar and size? DNA to deliver a striking result. Fitted with a classic black on white upper, the laterals teased hits of orange on the stitching, while the medial wall came in stronger with our signature shade.

adidas Originals Superstar ‘City Series Tribute’ – size? exclusive (2020)
The clue was in the name with the next one, this Superstar paid tribute to the ambitious 35 exclusive collaborations that adidas released to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Superstar. It included 5 series: Consortium Series, Anniversary Series, Music Series, Expression Series, and the Cities Series, which our exclusive took inspiration from. A mash-up of references, you can find nods to London, Buenos Aires, Paris, Boston, Berlin, Tokyo and New York within the shoe’s makeup.
adidas Originals Superstar ‘Romeo and Juliet’ – size? exclusive (2020)
Inspired by Baz Luhmann’s 1996 take on Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, our 2020 size? exclusive was a two-pair pack that would entice star-crossed lovers anywhere. Inspired by the shirts worn by Leo and the rest of the Montegues, the ‘Romeo’ Superstar featured a mix of bold patterns, while the ‘Juliet’ iteration was dressed in pink with patterned 3-Stripes on the medial, which perfectly married the pairs. Full of fine details, the designs feature ‘+’ branding on the heels as a final call back to the film.
