Seemingly out of nowhere, LG has initiated the rollout of webOS software version 33.30.92 across existing 2025 LG G5 and C5 OLED TV models. This free update, as reported by TechRadar, targets Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) picture modes, boosting brightness across Cinema Home, Vivid, Game, and Standard presets (but not Filmmaker Mode, which targets reference material standards).
LG OLED owners are taking to Reddit to share their before and after photos, which together paint a clear picture: the 33.30.92 update significantly improves the visibility of Dolby Vision HDR by way of boosting brightness levels.
One Reddit user by the name of Stansley083 has also posted what appears to be a changelog document, which reads: “The primary purpose of this update is to resolve an issue where Dolby VIsion content (specifically in “Cinema Home” mode) appeared noticeably darker than standard HDR10 content.”
LG, for its part, hasn’t officially commented on the matter, and so it’s unclear whether older pre-2025 G5 and C5 models have received any benefit from this particular Dolby Vision upgrade. For the time being, all we have to go off of are online posts from owners experiencing the upgrade first-hand. Interestingly, it appears that more G5 users are reporting improved brightness levels when compared to C5 users, though this is all based on anecdotal evidence.

A brighter Dolby Vision experience is very much welcome
For some time now, LG OLED panel customers have been on record stating that Dolby Vision HDR content tuning is on the darker side. In ideal conditions, with little ambient light and no glare, this isn’t a major issue, but life is messy and most of us aren’t streaming media content in lab-curated environments.
As such, the boost in brightness across Dolby Vision modes is a welcome improvement, making darker scenes in films and shows more visible and pleasing to the eye. Of course, for those with dedicated home theater setups, the Filmmaker Mode continues to exist in a non-brightened state for more accurate depictions of source material.
It’s good to see LG continue to support and improve upon its in-market TVs, as opposed to artificially limiting upgrades like this one to next-generation hardware. Dolby Vision HDR is a real treat to have on an OLED TV when paired with compatible media, and this software rollout only sweetens the deal for LG TV owners.
