Footy commentator strikes back after supposed ‘AFL fan’ hit her with an unprintable X-rated insult in vile video

  • Channel Seven star Kate McCarthy was targeted

Channel Seven footy commentator Kate McCarthy has clapped back at a so-called ‘AFL fan’ who produced a video about her full of X-rated insults.

McCarthy, 33, shared the vision on Instagram, and it is clear the foul-mouthed supporter needs some decorum lessons.

The clip followed McCarthy appearing on Seven’s AFL Footy Show, which clearly incensed the man.

Among the vile commentary was mocking McCarthy’s arm tattoos and also referring to the former AFLW star as a ‘f*cking mole.’

‘Your favourite tattooed mole checking in! Thank you for all the support this week,’ McCarthy posted on Thursday in a joint Instagram post with Sherele Moody, who is the Australian Femicide Watch/RED HEART Movement founder.

McCarthy was soon inundated with support on social media, including from cricket broadcaster Bharat Sundaresan plus St Kilda AFLW star Bianca Jakobsson.

In September last year, some footy fans lashed out on X when McCarthy was added to the voting panel for the Norm Smith Medal.

The former All-Australian footy star joined Adelaide Crows great Andrew McLeod, Hawthorn legend Luke Hodge, three-time Richmond premiership winner Jack Riewoldt and West Coast’s 2018 premiership coach Adam Simpson on the panel to decide who was best on ground when Brisbane and Geelong squared off at the MCG.

Despite McCarthy’s on-field achievements and impressive transition into the media with Channel Seven, the official AFL website and Triple M, some felt being handpicked for one of the code’s highest honours was a token gesture.

‘I’m tired of pretending we are to give her the same respect and gravitas as guys with 300+ games, premierships and awards at the absolute highest level. We do not,’ one fumed on X.

‘Pure window dressing from the AFL,’ posted another.

‘I actually like Kate McCarthy, but we all know how woke the AFL is,’ a third weighed in.

Well aware the development angered some supporters, McCarthy sarcastically posted on X: ‘Lots of people happy with this one. ‘Couldn’t be more proud personally. What an honour.’

Her Channel Seven colleague Mitch Cleary told the haters to ‘jog on’, before declaring McCarthy was one of the code’s ‘most prominent analysts’ in 2025.

News Corp’s Lauren Wood tweeted: ‘Death, taxes and some ‘men’ getting triggered by women in footy. Get ’em Kate.’

AFL Today’s Alex Donnelly added: ‘Imagine being mad at Kate getting this role. As if she isn’t one of the better footy minds in media.’
