I was thinking that this these good times since the recession in 2008 man this is a long recovery one of the longest I’ve lived through I think it’s also one of the longest ones of the US is experienced since inception and you know it’s going to come to an end because they all do. I don’t know when but they all come to even if that isn’t the immediate circumstances, there are winners and losers in the way of organizations and thus winners and losers in the way of staff that are affected by the health of their organization. If an industry is being decimated your could be affected it’s like in New York. Taxis are being replaced by Ubers and the result winds up being there’s less opportunity for folks that there is now forget that truck drivers are going to be replaced by autonomous vehicles that’s can wipe out a lot of jobs, but the impact winds up being that folks need to be prepared and where you can minimalize the impact where you work in an organization were the things that you can do proactively head this off. You should really do what so just give you a few suggestions for things that you can do number one is notice what the politics is in your organization who has power who has authority you in the longest-serving is. Every organization has politics I work for a firm some years ago where there were two people who really ran the operation and unless you were beholden to them that one owner in a looking down and done your they listen the owner listen to what these two people said and made no difference how successful you work if you work on the good side of those two people have problems and you know you have to notice how this works in this politics and every organization there people who are influencers to people who actually have power and thus, if you rub against a graying your good be affected. So if you’re concerned stay attention to the politics another thing is fit in. You know there’s a saying about tall poppies and people who are tall poppies, will their people who come around with machetes to cut them the tall poppy and in organizations people who stay in some organizations are some organizations that revel in having tall poppies but in some organizations, all they want are people who are going to fit in your good be grounds were not going to stand out from the pack that for me personally I can do this before other folks that you try to save a job you trying to remain employed. This is what you have to do and not just simply one time it has to be part of your persona activity. So flight if it in an organization that something in this is one where I know I excel is the notion of self-promotion for you as an employee of a firm you can create a brand for your self apart from the organization. So, for example, employees says hi my name is I work for Facebook or Google is branded with the name of Facebook and Google and people’s impressions of those organizations good times. That’s great. However, there are times where organizations are in less prominence and the impact on the individual can be detrimental so you look the brand yourself personally apart from your organization complementing it, not opposing it, but complementing so, for example, you when I did recruiting. I work for different firms. I worked three different firms is a contractor at the search for and I branded myself is the big Game Hunter, which was a play on the notion of being a headhunter and I worked in myself promoting myself resumes. I submitted on behalf of candidates had my name, Jeff Altman, the big Game Hunter had the firm name is be respectful to the organization. The mistake make that I was brand that is the big Game Hunter and I didn’t know at the time, but once I transitioned into coaching which I wasn’t thinking of it that way. It was a benefit for me as well. Everything was about having me stand out in a certain it’s not just simply that term, the big Game Hunter with all the current into the thousands of videos and podcasts. You can do that to you don’t have to be as dramatic as me you can write articles for LinkedIn in medium and other platforms and start the stand out as a professional a in the strict number one so that your current organization respects you and number two is so that recruiters notice.
