It’s the moment fans have been dreading for months.

During the March 19 episode, Grey’s Anatomy fans said goodbye to Katie Rogers (Samantha Marie Ware), who died offscreen following her cancer diagnosis. 

Prior to her death, Katie moved in with Lucas (Niko Terho) and Simone (Alexis Floyd) to receive hospice care and comfort in her final stages of her stage two gastric cancer diagnosis.

Lucas and Katie had one final moment together as he lay beside her in bed while they talked about the potential life they could have had together in New York City—with Katie being a therapist and Lucas having a residency—as they also shared their feelings for one another.

And after Lucas and Simone got into an argument over him wanting to further Katie’s care and keep her alive—which ultimately ended with Simone hiding canisters from Lucas—he rushed to Grey Sloan Memorial to seek out more. However, by the time he arrived back home, Katie had already passed away.
