Moment speeding Mercedes driver smashes into parked cars in front of horrified families

A speeding Mercedes driver has smashed into two parked cars and a wall after losing control in front of horrified families walking along a residential street.

Video captures a mother and her young child being forced to run for cover while a man miraculously escaped serious injury after he was hit by an uncontrollable car on Wilton Road in Sparkhill, Birmingham.

Two cars – the Mercedes and an already damaged Audi – can be seen speeding along narrow streets where children are walking before the Mercedes smashes into a wall and flips over, pushing another car into the man and causing him to fly to the ground from the impact.

The man can be seen getting back to his feet after the crash on Sunday, which also took down a lamppost, and hobbles around holding his leg as the driver and passengers of the crashed car flee.

One neighbour, who did not wished to be named, described hearing a ‘loud bang’ causing ‘everyone [to come] running out of their homes’.

They continued: ‘There was one guy hurt but I think he was OK. It’s a miracle that nobody was badly injured or killed.

‘There were lots of people about. I don’t know what happened but we believe one car was chasing the other, rather than racing, or they were both trying to get away from some trouble.

‘Either way, it was a very nasty crash and I’m amazing everyone walked away.

‘People drive like idiots around here and these are all narrow residential streets with lots of kids and families.’

West Midlands Police are now hunting the suspects for both the crash as well as an alleged assault on two men, which occurred before the car collided with the wall.

A spokesperson said: ‘We were called to Wilton Road, Sparkhill, shortly after 4.20pm on Sunday, after a vehicle crashed into parked vehicles and into the front wall of a property.

‘One man, a pedestrian, received minor injuries. The occupants of the vehicle fled.

‘Shortly before an assault had  taken place on two men by occupants of the vehicle involved in the collision.

‘We’re investigating and anyone with any information should call 101 quoting crime number 20/172368/26.

‘Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 5555111.’

The West Midlands Fire Service also attended the scene, ‘arriving to find a car had come into collision with three parked vehicles.’

The spokesperson added: ‘Firefighters made the vehicles and scene safe, and we left the scene at 5.35pm, with police colleagues in attendance.’
