Cheltenham Festival LIVE: Tips and results from Champions Day as Kopek Des Bordes, Lossiemouth and The New Lion headline action-packed opening day

One face which will be sorely missed this Festival…

Is that of Rachael Blackmore, the legendary jockey who retired in May of last year after completing the Cheltenham Grand Slam of Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup, Champion Chase, and Stayers Hurdle wins.

The Queen of Cheltenham – who is currently awaiting the birth of her first child – did however spare a few words for Betfair, sharing the circumstances of what would constitute a fantasy farewell:

If I was to come out of retirement to ride one horse at the Cheltenham Festival this year it would have to be Bob Olinger in the Grade 1 Stayers’ Hurdle. My favourite ever winner during my career is tough as it is hard to split to Minella Times in the Grand National and Honeysuckle’s last win in the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham. They were both very, very special.

Blackmore also shared her tip for the day with the bookmakers, backing Kopek Des Bordes in the Arkle Chase.
