Former Man United star Ryan Giggs stars in video promoting International Women’s Day for Asian betting site in latest post-career move since domestic abuse allegations

Ryan Giggs has featured in a promotional video for an Asian betting company celebrating International Women’s Day.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who works as an ambassador for betting brand F168, shared the video to his Instagram page on Sunday.

‘Today we celebrate the strength, beauty and achievements of women everywhere,’ Giggs, 52, says while appearing in the video.

‘To all the amazing women in our community, keep shining and inspiring us all.’

The ex-Wales international signs off by appearing to encourage viewers to sign up to the gambling site, adding: ‘Don’t forget to have some fun and games at F168.’

His Instagram post was also accompanied by a caption, which read: ‘Happy Women’s Day! I’m Ryan Giggs, Brand Ambassador of F168.

A pivotal figure in Manchester United’s 1999 Treble-winning team, Giggs has struggled to re-establish himself in football since allegations of domestic abuse were lodged against him.

The allegations of assault and controlling or coercive behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville and her sister Emma were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service in 2020.

A retrial was abandoned three years later after prosecutors pulled out of the case, with ex-girlfriend Greville declining to give evidence.

The former United star has always strongly denied the charges and said he felt ‘deeply relieved’ at the time, but the controversy has made rebuilding his public standing a challenge.

It was reported in January that the Premier League ‘shelved plans’ for Giggs to be  inducted into their Hall of Fame while the Man United great faced domestic abuse charges.

Giggs had been intended to be an inaugural member of the Hall of Fame alongside Alan Shearer after the Premier League launched the concept, but he was ‘quietly withdrawn’ and has yet to be recognised despite being cleared in 2023.

Man United’s record appearance holder had most recently worked as a director of football at League Two club Salford City, but reportedly took a step back from day-to-day duties at the start of the season with the view of pursuing a return to full-time management.

Giggs has not found a role as head coach since he managed Wales between 2018 and 2022, having previously been interim manager at Manchester United in 2014.

The ex-Red Devils star also made headlines during his playing career when it was reported that he had had an affair with his brother Rhodri’s ex-wife in 2011. The affair, which began in 2003, led to Rhodri, 49, and his then-wife Natasha getting divorced.

Rhodri, who was also a footballer semi-professionally and now works in recruitment, is set to remarry after getting engaged to new partner Victoria Phillips last October.

Meanwhile, Ryan remains in a relationship with lingerie model Zara Charles, 37. The couple met in 2021 and welcomed their first child Cora in November 2024.
