If you need reminding, Brooklyn’s statement came after almost a year of speculation that all was not well between him and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, and his parents and siblings, with Brooklyn leaping to Nicola’s defense as he stated that he has no intention of reconciling with his family.
You can read a full recap of the entire feud here, but Brooklyn basically claimed that he had been “controlled” by his parents for “most” of his life, which left him with “overwhelming anxiety.” He added that David and Victoria value public promotion and endorsements above all else, writing: “Brand Beckham comes first. Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.”
In addition, Brooklyn claimed that his whole family had been “consistently” disrespectful toward Nicola, and had been trying to ruin their relationship. Victoria was also singled out as Brooklyn claimed that she had “hijacked” his and Nicola’s first dance at their wedding by “very inappropriately on” him. He said: “I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
Needless to say, Brooklyn’s comments effectively broke the internet, and the Beckham family found themselves at the center of a whole bunch of discourse in the weeks after he posted it. But through it all, David and Victoria have maintained a dignified silence. A source later told People that the couple had been left “horrified” by the situation and are scared of losing Brooklyn forever. The insider added: “They are afraid of losing their son and would take him back in a minute. They are a close family, too. Just in a different way than Nicola’s family is. They love Brooklyn and are horrified about everything.”
“David and Victoria believe time will heal this. They know over time that Brooklyn will come back. They can’t really do anything until then,” they concluded, noting that Brooklyn and Nicola only speak with his parents “through mediators.”
Prior to Brooklyn’s statement, it was widely reported that Brooklyn had sent a legal letter to his parents last summer “requesting that any correspondence go through lawyers, as an attempt to try and make amends privately instead of publicly,” and them still posting about him on Instagram after this is what led to him blocking his family on social media.
And despite all of this, David and Victoria took to their Instagram accounts today to publicly wish Brooklyn a happy 27th birthday. David shared a sweet throwback photo of himself and Victoria with Brooklyn in a swimming pool when he was a toddler. He wrote: “27 today 🥺 Happy Birthday Bust 🤍 We love you x” He followed up with another photo of just himself and Brooklyn as a child, writing: “Happy Birthday Bust 🩷 Love you x”
Over on Victoria’s Instagram page, she shared the same throwback photo in the pool and wrote: “Happy birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much ❤️” Under a black and white photo of just her and Brooklyn as a toddler, Victoria added: “Happy 27th birthday Brooklyn, I love you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
The posts come after Brooklyn sparked backlash for publicly ignoring his 14-year-old sister Harper’s sweet Valentine’s Day posts, where she shared photos honoring all three of her brothers, who she called “the best big brothers in the whole wide world.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Cruz has not posted about Brooklyn’s birthday today, but Romeo did share a throwback photo of himself and Brooklyn to his story with no message.
