How to get 2 free Kindle e-books this March

With March officially here, I’m excited that spring is finally within reach after a long, snowy winter. But it’s not just the warmer weather I’m thinking about. As an avid Kindle reader, a new month also means it’s time to score some free Kindle e-books again. And if you’re wondering how I do it, the answer is simple: Amazon’s First Reads program.

At the start of each month, Amazon refreshes its First Reads program with a new selection of upcoming Kindle titles across a range of genres, giving readers early access before they’re widely released. If you’re a Prime member, you can choose one free Kindle e-book from the First Reads lineup to read, plus a bonus short read, for a total of two free books each month. Even better, once you claim the books, they’re yours to keep forever.

The only catch is that you need an Amazon Prime membership to get the free Kindle e-books, which costs $15 per month or $139 per year. That said, if you’ve never subscribed to Prime before — or it’s been a while since you last tried it — you may be eligible for a free trial. That lets you test out Prime’s other perks (like free shipping and Prime Video) and claim the free Kindle e-books from First Reads without spending a dime. You can check out First Reads and Amazon Prime below.

For March, Amazon is offering eight different Kindle books to choose from in its First Reads lineup. Again, as a Prime member, you get to choose one of these eight books to read and keep for free.

As usual, the books Amazon is offering this month span a range of different genres, including romance, fantasy, and historical fiction. Here are all eight titles available, and their genre:

  • As Far As She Knew (Genre: Domestic Suspense)
  • In The Great Quiet (Genre: Historical Fiction)
  • Yours Always (Genre: Psychological Thriller)
  • No Place To Be Single (Genre: Book Club Fiction)
  • What Happened Next (Genre: Mystery)
  • Maybe It’s Fate (Genre: Contemporary Romance)
  • The Last Labyrinth (Genre: Fantasy)
  • Whispers of Ink and Starlight (Genre: Book Club Fiction)

In addition to receiving one of the books above for free, you can also claim the bonus short read this March, titled The Price of Honey.

Another thing to note is that even if you aren’t an Amazon Prime member, you can still browse all the books in the First Read program. However, instead of it being free to choose one, it costs $2, which ain’t a bad deal either.

I think Amazon’s First Reads program is a truly underrated perk of having a Prime membership. If you already have Prime and haven’t looked at it before, I highly recommend it. It’s such an easy way to get free books each month and expand your Kindle library, and it only takes a minute to check out.

You have until the end of March to claim this month’s First Reads titles, as the selection will reset on April 1 with new titles to choose from.
