NSW Premier Chris Minns has hinted the state election next year will be his last and that he won’t ‘be here’ for the 2031 election.
Minns made the suggestion on Monday when he was asked how he envisioned Sydney would look when the MetroWest project is completed in 2032.
‘Well, I won’t be here, at least in this role, but look, as a citizen, I hope, I genuinely hope, that we can make a massive impact in housing affordability for young people,’ he said.
‘The best way that the NSW government can do that is to put well-designed, brand-new apartments close to public transport lines.
‘If we can get some density closer to the city, and we can legitimately say to the next generation of young Australians, now there’s a place for you in this expensive city. It’s not just for millionaires and billionaires.’
Minns added he did not ‘know what the future holds’, admitting he ‘might get beat in 2027’ when the next election is held.
He was elected premier in 2023, marking the first time in 12 years that Labor had been voted into power in the state.
The next election will be held on March 13, 2027.

A Roy Morgan poll in February revealed Minns is still the preferred state premier when respondents were given the option to choose between him or Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane.
‘A look at the demographic results shows Premier Chris Minns leading amongst both genders, all four key age groups, in both Sydney and Country New South Wales, and amongst ALP supporters, Greens supporters, One Nation supporters, and supporters of independent and Other Parties,’ Roy Morgan said.
Fifty-six per cent said Minns had done a good job during his first term, and 25 per cent disagreed.
In the three-party preferred stakes, Labor is at 44 per cent, One Nation at 33.5 per cent and the LNP at 22.5 per cent.
