Prince William Urged Charles, Queen Elizabeth to ‘Banish’ Andrew

This week on Royally Us, royal author Russell Myers reveals that Prince William has long taken a strong stand against uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

“William was absolutely adamant after seeing that BBC Newsnight interview with his uncle and the disastrous explanations that he gave for being friends with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Refusing to apologize for his relationship and refusing to acknowledge the actual trauma of Epstein victims was an absolute red line for William,” Myers, author of William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story, tells Us Weekly. “He actually said to the late queen and his father [King Charles III], ‘He has to be banished. Andrew has to be rid of both the public and the private royal family.’”

Andrew, 66, was arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal misconduct while serving in public office. The Thames Valley police department told the BBC that authorities were investigating claims that Andrew shared confidential information with convicted pedophile Epstein while serving as a U.K. trade envoy.

Andrew was released from police custody within hours of his arrest. In October 2025, the former Duke of York was stripped of his titles following renewed scrutiny over his links to Epstein. He had previously been accused of sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre, who said they were introduced by an Epstein associate. Andrew denied the claims and later reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre, who died in 2025, for an undisclosed sum.

“The Andrew scandal has been a stain on the royal family,” Myers tells Us. “William [if he were king] would have taken certain measures to have Andrew completely out of the picture. William understands that his father needs to take the lead on this, and he’s willing to support him in any way he can.”
