Sickening moment punches random woman on the street and knocks her unconscious: Police hunting thug

New footage shows the moment a woman was knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack by a man who was passing by.

The victim can be seen being floored after she was struck by the man with his elbow, while she walked with her friends in the early morning of a Sunday last year.

The man, wearing a distinct green and black North Face jacket, casually walks towards the group of women on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork City, Ireland, with his hands in his pocket.

He then strikes out at the victim with an aggressive blow of his elbow before continuing down the street as if nothing had happened.

The viscous assault knocked the woman unconscious on the street at 2.50am. One of her friends rushed to help her while the other woman seems to have confronted the attacker as he walked away.

The blow broke the woman’s eye socket – otherwise known as the orbital bone – and was subsequently treated in hospital.

An Garda Síochána are now asking for help in hunting down the man by calling for witnesses.

The attacker is described as being between 5ft8 and 5ft9 tall, with a stocky build and dark facial hair – and is believed to be between his late twenties and early-to-mid thirties.

Garda Greg Freegrove told RTÉ: ‘It’s a serious assault incident that happened on 23rd November in Cork City. The man we’re looking to identify is here in the centre of the screen, wearing a green and black North Face jacket.

‘As he walked past a group of people on Oliver Plunkett Street, he lifts his elbow and hits a woman in the head, knocking her unconscious.

‘He quickly made his way along Oliver Plunkett Street, away from the scene, and the victim was left with a broken orbital bone in her right eye socket.

‘He’s believed to be in his late twenties to mid-thirties, around 5ft8 in height, and he had a stocky build, dark hair and beard.

‘As I said, he is wearing that green and black North Face jacket, and we’re asking viewers to give us a call if they can help [with the investigation].’

This comes as a man, aged in his 40s, was hospitalised after an assault on the same street earlier this month.

An Garda Síochána are investigating and call for witnesses. Information can also be provided through the Garda Confidential Line on (+353) 1800 666 111 or in person at any Garda station.
