Woman found dead in a Bellbird Park home is identified – as harrowing details emerge and cops launch murder probe


A woman found dead inside a home has been identified, as police reveal her body may have been left for up to two weeks before its discovery. 

Police were called to Beryl Court at Bellbird Park near Ipswich, west of Brisbane, last Thursday morning following reports of a disturbance in the street.

A man was arrested at the scene.

Further inquiries led police to the grim discovery of a woman’s body inside a nearby home two hours later.

She has since been identified as Springfield woman Katherine Sanowski, 42.

Police announced on Tuesday that a homicide investigation had been launched after receiving autopsy results regarding her injuries. 

‘We’ve conducted a post-mortem, which has identified some suspicious elements in regards to this death, and as such, we’re treating it as a homicide investigation,’ Detective Inspector Michael Manago said.

‘Our investigations suggest that the deceased had been in that dwelling for about two weeks, backdating to early February.

A 34-year-old Bellbird Park man taken into custody at the time remains in hospital undergoing a medical assessment.

He is yet to speak with detectives. No charges have been laid.

Ms Sanowski had not been reported missing in the days leading up to her body being found and did not live at the Bellbird Park address.

Det Insp Manago confirmed the man in custody and Ms Sanowski were known to each other and does not believe at this stage anyone else was involved in her death. 

‘The dynamics of their relationship remain a key topic of our investigation today,’ he added. 

‘There’s no previous reports of domestic violence between the parties involved.

‘Their previous history is subject to continued investigations.

‘We don’t believe there’s anyone else involved, however we’re keeping an open mind.

‘I want to stress to everyone that there are no concerns for public safety, in regards to what’s transpired at that location, and also want to appeal to anyone that was in the vicinity of Beryl Court at Bellbird during the early period of February, 2026.’

Anyone who witnessed anything in Beryl Court or may have relevant CCTV is urged to come forward. 

Neighbours in the quiet street said they were shocked to learn what had happened. 

‘Nothing really goes on here. Everyone’s really good with each other,’ one man told the Courier Mail.

‘It’s not really a place where everyone’s yelling and screaming at each other.’ 

According to her social media, Ms Sanowski graduated from Griffith University in June 2024 and suggested at the time that she was making a fresh start.

Two months later, she appealed for advice on a Springfield community Facebook page.

‘Anyone know of any community groups, support groups in the area and/or events happening tonight/over the weekend? Going through tough times and looking to make some friends,’ she wrote.
