There are only 3 movies in the Netflix top 10 worth watching right now

As someone who truly enjoys consuming as much pop culture as I can, I often look to the Netflix top 10 lists to decide what shows and movies to watch every evening as I settle in for TV time. Lately, however, I’ve been more than a little disappointed with the offerings on the Top 10 lists, especially the movies, as this list has recently been filled with films I’ve seen several times before (hello again, K-Pop Demon Hunters) or generic action movies that are being rediscovered a decade later.

Looking at this week’s top ten, I was tempted to just throw in the towel, but there are actually some pretty good films in the top 10, if you don’t mind scrolling a little bit. From a tense, claustrophobic thriller to a Spanish mystery set against the backdrop of a natural disaster, here’s what’s actually worth watching this week on Netflix.

1. 10×10

A quick thriller that will keep viewers guessing until the end

I’m a sucker for a tight-quarters thriller (I love Panic Room and the original Saw) and 10×10, a 2018 thriller starring Luke Evans definitely scratches that familiar itch. If you missed this movie when it first came out nearly a decade ago, the premise is simple: Lewis, a seemingly ordinary man kidnaps a woman named Cathy, and holds her in the titular 10×10-foot room in his home. Though his actions seem extreme at first, secrets are eventually revealed that put the captor’s actions in a shocking new light.

While this movie doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel, it sets up its central mystery well and wraps everything up quickly, coming in at a tight 88 minute runtime that is perfect for evening watching.

2. Firebreak

A child’s disappearance during a natural disaster sets a family on edge

At first this Spanish Netflix original film looks like just another disaster film that follows a family trying to escape a wildfire. However, this movie takes a thriller turn quickly when the family’s youngest child disappears while they are trying to escape the flames. As her mother desperately attempts to locate her eight-year-old among the flames, tensions begin to rise and movies are questioned as the family begins to fracture under the stress.

This Spanish-language movie is available both in its original language as well as dubbed in English and is another mysterious film where not everything is as it seems. It’s a little on the long side clocking in at nearly two hours, but if you can stick with it, you’ll be rewarded with a solid movie experience that may have you thinking twice about who you choose to bring on your next family trip.

3. How to Train Your Dragon (2025)

The rare live action remake that does the original justice

Added earlier this month, the How To Train Your Dragon live action remake continues to be a fixture in the Netflix top 10 movie list and for good reason. With dazzling special effects, a gorgeous score, and amazing performances from stars Mason Thames and Gerard Butler, this remake may not outshine the original animated film, but it gets shockingly close, and is certainly worth a watch, no matter whether you are a fan of the original film or haven’t seen it at all.

Though we’ll have to wait another year for the live action version of How to Train Your Dragon 2 to arrive in theaters, the animated version of the sequel is now on Netflix as well if you want to continue Hiccup and Toothless’ journey.
