Horror as woman dies from multiple gunshot wounds in North Toowoomba – as police make an arrest


One person is in custody after a young woman was shot dead in Queensland’s Darling Downs region.

Police were called to a home in North Toowoomba at about 1.50pm on Wednesday following reports of gunshots.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was found critically injured at the scene with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.

She was rushed to Toowoomba Hospital, where she has since died. 

Paramedics also treated a man aged in his 50s for a head injury and another man for emotional distress. 

Police were seen canvassing homes along West Street in their pursuit of the offender as PolAir circled the vicinity from above.

Officers have since made an arrest but are unable to confirm if there were multiple people involved. 

‘As the matter is currently unfolding there is no further details available at this time,’ Queensland Police said. 

Darling Downs District Acting Detective Inspector Brian Collin assured the public the shooting did not impact the communities safety. 

‘There’s no concern with public safety at this point in time,’ Mr Collin told reporters on Wednesday. 

‘We believe that no members of the public are in any current danger.’

However, he added the shooting was ‘extremely alarming’ as it occurred near a school around the afternoon pick-up. 

Mr Collins added police were calling for any witnesses who were in the West Street and Christmas Street area between 1.30 and 2pm to come forward. 

‘Investigations are really in its infancy at the moment,’ Mr Collin said.

‘We’re calling for any witnesses to come forward with any dash footage or any eyewitness accounts of any people or persons they might have seen.

‘Come forward and notify police as soon as possible.’ 

Mr Collin explained three people, who are associates of the woman, were assisting police with their inquiries.  

West Street between Mortand Bridge Streets remain closed while nearby residents have been ordered to remain indoors.
