A ground stop has been issued at Newark International Airport in New Jersey after a JetBlue flight was forced to make an emergency landing.
The airport will remain closed until 11pm on Wednesday as crews continue to respond to the JetBlue flight, which was heading to Palm Beach, Florida when crew members reported smoke in the cockpit, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
It had taken off from Newark at 5.43pm and had to immediately return to the airport due to engine failure, a source familiar with the incident told PIX 11.
The pilot then chose to land at Newark and evacuate the plane via emergency slides.
The plane landed safely with no injuries reported, the source said.
The FAA is now investigating the incident.
