Original Story:
Multiple people were found dead after a shooting took place inside of a gated community in Sarasota, Florida, police officers confirmed.
Deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Fallcrest Circle around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, according to KPTV. Upon their arrival, authorities found a neighbor performing CPR on a male victim in the front yard.
Neighbors told responding officers that the man’s wife was potentially inside the home, according to Gulf Coast News Now. The male victim was then moved to another location and he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Once police officers went inside of the home, they found two women and two men that were dead inside of the residence. Additionally, a weapon was found in the home.
“It is currently a shooting investigation. We do have multiple persons involved,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said, per KPTV. “And it appears that all of those persons are accounted for.”
As the deputies tried to identify the victims and a potential suspect, they heard from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department that they were working a double homicide. According to Gulf Coast News Now, the FLPD believed the Sarasota shooting was linked to their investigation.
The FLPD stated that the suspect’s vehicle linked to the Sarasota shooting was caught on camera in connection to the homicide that it was investigating. A Ring camera caught the suspect’s vehicle entering the neighborhood around 11:01 a.m. on the day of the Sarasota shooting, according to the outlet. Detectives said that the same vehicle was previously seen traveling northbound through Punta Gorda before the Sarasota homicide took place.
About 37 minutes after the car entered the neighborhood, the male victim that was found on the front lawn was seen entering the neighborhood in his own car. The man was then seen approaching the front door and he was shot.
The sheriff’s office said that they have identified all of the victims, while they said that the suspect was among the people that died inside of the home. Additionally, the suspect’s vehicle was found parked in the neighborhood.
Police have not yet publicly revealed the victims’ names as detectives are still making next to kin notifications.
The sheriff’s office said that the suspect was previously in a romantic relationship with one of the victims in Fort Lauderdale. The former romantic partner was connected to the victims in Sarasota, according to deputies. However, it is not currently known what the suspect’s motive was for targeting the victims in Sarasota.
The killings have left the community in a fragile state. One resident who heard the gunshots told KPTV that they were “a little in shock” over the situation.
“Happening right here in my neighborhood. And Amberlea is a safe community,” the neighbor said. “I mean, it’s gated. And just people dying … it’s horrible.”
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department told Us that they were working with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office amid the ongoing investigation into the two cases.
