Job interviews are like flipping a coin. — Unknown.
What do you make of this statement?
What do I make of this statement? I make of this statement that someone doesn’t know how to… how to interview, and thus they’ve been rejected a bunch of times. So they want to feel better about themselves, so they’re making it seem like interviewing is arbitrary when most of interviewing isn’t.
Now, there’s a point where a firm decides, “I’ve got three people I have to choose between,” and I don’t want to even make it seem like that’s like flipping a coin because they’ve narrowed it down to three from, let’s say, 10 or 15 or 30. And now, what are the differences between the three? That’s not about flipping a coin; that’s about discrete differences. So, I really don’t buy this “interviews are like flipping a coin” nonsense.
