House Renovation Projects : Hearth House

Medium has completed the renovation of Hearth House in London, carefully balancing historic character with contemporary needs. The design avoids dramatic alteration, instead focusing on interventions that enhance light, space, and circulation while keeping the original structure intact. High ceilings and large windows provide the framework for living, working, and display, with the architecture’s existing form celebrated rather than obscured.

Key changes include custom joinery and new enclosures that define zones without fragmenting the interior. Materials such as oak, plaster, and translucent glass create warmth and softness while maintaining a sense of openness. Select walls were removed to establish longer sightlines, connecting rooms and framing views of the surrounding gardens. The result is a refreshed environment that respects the home’s history while adapting it for modern life, showing how sensitive renovation can unlock both memory and possibility.
