Sustainable Aviation Fuel Implementations : South Korean Producers

Korean Air is increasing the application of sustainable aviation fuel — also known as SAF — sourced from South Korean producers. The company is extending its use from an initial trial on a Tokyo route to include services to Kobe and Osaka.

Korean Air’s SAF program involves blending one percent of this alternative fuel with conventional jet fuel on specific flights, a measure that will be in effect for a period exceeding one year. The SAF is manufactured by domestic energy companies using recycled cooking oil as a feedstock. The product from these South Korean producers meets the international certification standards established by the aviation sector’s carbon reduction framework.

The airline positions this expansion as part of its broader strategy to support the industry’s transition toward lower-carbon operations.
