Have you ever been to an escape room? Personally, I hated the experience. But it popped into my mind yesterday how the process of working your way through an escape room was like #interviewing
Why Do They Want My Pay Stubs?
Have you ever gone to an escape room? I went one time, I happened to hate it. I hate these situations where you have these opaque clues designed to trick you in the wrong direction so that you’re stuck and you’ve got to figure out these clues to move to the next room.
Well, job interviews are like that too, except I know what the rules are. I understand them, and I can navigate through them. Most of you don’t, and for you, it’s like going through an escape room. You have to figure out the clues, including the job description, which is often not completely accurate, so that you can move on to the next room, which in this case is an interview. This may end the game, or you can figure out the clues and move on to the next room after that, and the one after that. And even then, getting through to the end, there may not be a prize for you. You may just walk out the door and go, “I wasted an hour of my time. I wasted two hours of my time.” And that’s how interviewing is like an escape room.
