CBRE Investment Management announced on August 21, 2025 the acquisition of ClearGen Holdings LLC, a Charlotte-based firm founded in 2020 that specializes in financing distributed energy infrastructure. Since its inception, ClearGen has built a portfolio of more than 250 contracted projects—ranging from rooftop solar installations to dispersed wind turbines—across 14 states, delivering cost savings, emissions reductions and enhanced resiliency for municipalities, businesses and developers. Post-transaction, ClearGen’s leadership team will remain in place, and the company plans to expand its Charlotte headquarters to meet growing demand for decentralized energy solutions.
CBRE IM has framed the acquisition as a strategic extension of its clean energy infrastructure strategy, citing the long-term tailwinds of digitalization and decarbonization that underpin the distributed energy sector. Robert Shaw, Managing Director of Private Infrastructure Strategies at CBRE Investment Management, noted that combining CBRE’s global platform with ClearGen’s differentiated partnership approach and track record will accelerate project development, broaden development partnerships and provide certainty to distributed energy developers amid market and regulatory uncertainties.
