Ultra-Minimalist Coffee Shop Designs : KURA-GE Coffee Shop

The KURA-GE Coffee Shop is a thoughtfully crafted space that blends Japanese artistry with Parisian architectural sensibilities. Located in the Marais district, the 60-square-meter café occupies a former retail space. The project was headed by Moyésoa and Rémy Azna.

The KURA-GE Coffee Shop’s design emphasizes natural materials, featuring solid French oak treated with ammonia smoking and shaped by artisans in Brittany. This wood forms the structural backbone of the interior, appearing in the counter, benches, and custom joinery. Exposed butterfly joints and wooden pegs highlight traditional craftsmanship. The earthy, pigmented concrete floor, which was rendered in muted pink and brown tones, adds a grounded, tactile quality to the space. Lighting, designed by Inès Aznar using Japanese paper, provides soft illumination.

Every detail, from the hand-fitted woodwork to the restrained material palette, contributes to an atmosphere of quiet sophistication.
