Clean the Sky – Renewable Energy Megaprojects

Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

Simply Blue Group is advancing a multibillion-dollar renewable energy hub on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore that integrates wind, solar and biomass to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The company has secured approximately 755 acres of contiguous land in Goldboro—266 acres acquired from Pieridae Energy and 489 acres from the Municipality of Guysborough—to host a processing plant powered by electricity from a dedicated transmission line connected to a joint wind and solar farm in St. Mary’s. The facility will convert renewable electricity, local biomass and water resources into roughly 150,000 tonnes of SAF per year, which offers a 90 percent reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions compared to conventional jet fuel.

To ensure feedstock supply, Simply Blue has signed an agreement with Wagner Forest Management to source 700,000 tonnes of residual biomass annually, with stockpiling to begin several years before production. After investing tens of millions in engineering and feasibility studies, the project was transitioned in mid-2025 to Octopus Energy Generation under the Nova Sustainable Fuels entity, and a memorandum of understanding was signed with Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs to guide responsible development. With a final investment decision slated for 2026 and operations targeted for 2029, the project is expected to create hundreds of local jobs and establish a new market for forestry residues while contributing to regional economic growth and Canada’s decarbonization goals.
