The Opaque ice cream by Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, created in collaboration with artist CJ Hendry, is a limited-edition flavor that abandons the vibrant aesthetics typical of treats. Instead, it dives into a jet-black presentation, made using natural ingredients such as black cocoa, espresso fudge, and balsamic cherry jam. This darkened palette forces a shift from visual anticipation toward sensory discovery through taste, texture, and aroma.

The flavor launches nationwide on August 14, paired with a monochromatic pop-up in SoHo, New York, running August 15 through 17. The immersive, color-free environment—including black tiles, cones, scoops, and even napkins—heightens the focus on sensory experience and conceptual play. Opaque is less about indulgence and more about inviting people to reconnect with what they savor, not just what they see.
