Stuck in your executive job search? Hitting dead ends? Your biggest advantage isn’t on a job board—it’s already in your past! This #short reveals a secret networking strategy that top executives use to unlock hidden opportunities, bypass competition, and land their next big role.
Let’s be honest, executive searches are not won by clicking the apply button. They’re won in conversations, private emails, warm intros, and the invisible trust economy that powers C-suite hiring behind the scenes. I’ve worked with thousands of professionals and executives through different searches and transitions over the many years, and when it comes to landing high-level roles—CEO, CFO, COO, CTO, and beyond—networking is everything.
But not just any kind of networking. To be clear, you’re not asking for favors; you’re not begging for interviews. You’re building credibility, visibility, and an opportunity by showing up like a peer and not like a candidate. So, I’m beginning a series now about executive networking and helping you with different strategies to employ.
And the first one is the obvious one: it starts off with reconnecting with strategic former colleagues. Start with people you already know, people who know your values, such as former bosses, board members, direct reports, vendors, peers. These relationships often lie dormant, but they hold tremendous opportunity.
You can reach out with a very simple message like, “Hey [whatever their first name is], or ‘Hey,’ if that’s what you prefer, ‘I’ve been thinking about our time working together at [whatever the firm was] and would love to catch up. I’d also value your perspective as I think about my next chapter.” Make the outreach about them and not you. Job leads are going to follow naturally from that.
I have a lot more available at jobsearch.com/community. Come over to the site. I’ve got free information on the homepage. More importantly, let me coach you. Become an insider at one of the higher tiers so that this way we spend more time together, and I can help you land that next role.
