Instagram Map has been launched by the social networking platform as a tool for helping users to get together in real life (IRL) by allowing them to share their location with their close inner circle.

The new map-focused feature is reliant on real-time location updates that are pulled from the user’s location only when they have the app open. The feature will thus allow users to let others know where they are to make sporadically meeting up with one another or planning a get-together easier than ever.

Instagram Map won’t allow users to indefinitely share their location, but rather puts a one-hour limit to give it a privacy-focused functionality. The information gathered by the app will be neatly laid out on a map to let users visualize where everyone is.
